Early Life
Hamal was born on June 4, 1964, in Tansen, in the heart of Nepal. His father, Chuda Bahadur Hamal was the Nepali ambassador to Pakistan, and his mother Renu K.C. He is the third child, with four siblings.
He spent the majority of his childhood in his hometown in Nepal, attending private school until the eighth grade. He did his schooling at Bhanubhakta Memorial Higher Secondary School. Then he went to Moscow, Russia with his father. At the time, his father was a political diplomat for the Nepalese government. Hamal and his father remained in Russia for a number of years. Hamal even began attending college in Moscow. Then he completed his education on M.A (Master’s in Arts) in English literature from Delhi University. He was the gold medalist there in his studies. He appeared sporting the latest clothing fashions on runways in Kathmandu and New Delhi and was featured in the renowned Indian fashion magazine, Fashion Net.

Hamal has earned an unprecedented number of recognized accolades from many different film organizations.
Before entering the film industry Hamal modeled for a magazine in India named Fashion Net whilst studying at the University of Delhi. He appeared in a fashion show organized by the Indian Embassy Women Association in the late 1980s.
He entered the film industry with his first movie “Yug Dekhi Yug Samma”. His uncle Deepak Raymajhiwas a successful director, and as such, Hamal landed a leading role in his first film YugDekhiYugSamma, in 1989. The film was met with great success. He also received a National Film Award for “Best Actor Debut” in 1989, for this film. Hamal then dove headfirst into acting.
In 1993 Hamal joined up with Tulsi Ghimire for the first time, in his directorial film project called Deuta. The film starred Hamal in the lead role beside the film, upon the film’s release it became a super hit at the box office of Nepal. The film is also considered the film that launched his stardom in the Nepali film industry. He poured himself into film after film and went on to act in an average of ten movies per year. In 1994, he worked on 14 different films, the highest number of movies he worked on in one year in his entire career. He received at least one, sometimes more, notable awards or nominations for Best Actor each consecutive year starting in 1990.
Hamal’s acting success was unstoppable and he is recognized for his efforts.
10 years later he was the chief judge of Miss Nepal 2007. Hamal has twice been a judge for Miss Nepal. In 2019, he was hosting the Nepali version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Ko Bancha Crorepati).”

Rajesh Hamal and Madhu Bhattarai managed to keep their relationship secret for five years, the couple admitted they were in a relationship two years before getting married. They first met at the Lux Beauty Pageant in 2004. He was impressed by Bhattarai’s talent at the Lux Beauty Pageant in 2004 where he was the judge of that beauty pageant. On 14 May, Hamal proposed to Bhattarai and got married. He carried the marriage Ceremony secretly at Hotel De Annapurna but later he threw a reception party with thousands of guests.
