Karishma Manandhar is the diva of the Nepali film industry. A very successful actress and an inspiration to lots of Nepali film lovers, she is a very well established personality in the Nepali film industry. Having debuted at an early age of 16, she is a very hard-working and career-focused person. She made her first debut in 1989 in the movie named “Santaan” and since then she has already spent about 3 decades in the film industry. Her flawless acting is what viewers are always fans of. Early life and education

Karishma Manandhar was born in 1972 in Jharuwarushi, Lalitpur. Her father Chhetra B. KC is a late army officer, whom she lost at a very young age and her mother is Komal KC. Being brought up by a single mother, Karishma’s mother had always wanted her daughter to be a successful person. She is the elder daughter of her parents and has a younger sister whereas she has two more siblings from another mother. Despite being born in Lalitpur, her childhood is spent in Thapagaun, Baneshwor. She belonged to a middle-class family and used to work at a garment company to support the family economically.

Karishma was a fast learner and she got to play her first role in the movie Santaan, opposite Bhuwan KC when she was in her seventh grade. For the purpose of her filmy career, she changed her name from Bunu to Karishma. Having debuted at a very young age, she went to Mumbai for her further training and couldn’t continue her studies. She received training for dancing and acting from Madhumati Dance and Acting Center, Mumbai. At her training phase, she also got to play a role in the movie “Choron ki Barat” and “Danga Fasad”.

Having left her studies at an early age, she always felt the necessity of education in her life. Thus, after crossing her forties, she joined her schooling again from seventh grade and successfully attempted her Secondary Examination Education (SEE) from Triveni Public Boarding School, Maiti Devi and passed it with B+ grade. After that, she is continuing her further studies from Kitani Secondary School. She believes in educated manpower and has plans to get completely focused on her education.

Movie and Career

Karishma was only 14 years old when she was first seen on camera. The director of her first movie, Prakash Thapa, was so influenced by her beauty that he was ready to take her as a lead role in his movie santaan even though Karishma was a total newbie and had no knowledge regarding acting. The film was a success and the actress was loved by many for her acting despite being a newbie. During her training in Mumbai, she played a few roles in Bollywood as well but she was persistent to establish herself in her own country’s film industry. Thus she returned back and continued her career in Nepal. “Papi Manche”, “Manma Maya”, “Santaan”, “Kasturi”, “Manakamana”, “Truck Driver” and others are counted among her most successful movies. After being established as a victorious actress, she also stepped into film production. But all of her produced movies didn’t do well so she has decided to step out of it. She also has got K.B. Film PVT. LTD situated at the Godavari, Lalitpur, which is a film shooting studio. Despite movies, she has featured in a number of commercials and has also been the brand ambassador of “LUX”.

The diva in her earlier film days happened to meet director Binod Manandhar with whom she worked in the movie Kasturi. The two found their someone special in one another and started seeing each other. After being in love for quite a time, the two found each other perfect for one another and finally tied the knot in 1991. After marriage, she gave birth to their little girl Kabita Manandhar. Karishma’s family has always been so supportive of her decisions in life and Binod and Kavita are totally positive towards Karishma’s decision to get back at her studies at an old age. Instead of feeling embarrassed, Kavita is proud of her mother for joining back her unaccomplished studies.
