Who is Rabi Lamichhane?

Rabi Lamichhane shot to fame in 2013 when he set a world record for the longest talk show. He interviewed several people from politicians to athletes to entertainers during his marathon talk show, which lasted over 62 hours. He then went on to host another show, called Sidha Kura PM Sanga, in the state-run TV during KP Oli Sharma’s first tenure as prime minister.

But it was the popular tv show Sidha Kura Janta Sanga, which made him a household name. The highlight of the show, which claims to be “quest for accountability with responsibility,’” features Lamichhane berating people accused of corruption and different forms of exploitation. He also repeatedly tells viewers that he is there for them if they have faced any kind of “injustice”.

This has made Lamichhane the most recognizable face in Nepali television. His shows on the news channel’s official YouTube page have hundreds of thousands of views and a steady stream of comments, hailing him as a messiah of the public.

Career

He used to be the manager and supervisor of a Subway chain in Baltimore, Maryland where he resided before moving to Nepal permanently. In his show (“Sidha Kura Janata Sanga”), he makes a real-time connection between the public and the responsible person about the issues. Rabi Lamichhane stayed on the air for more than 62 hours during a live broadcast by News24 Television. To set the world record for the longest talk show, he interviewed politicians, journalists, and celebrities on the theme “Buddha was born in Nepal”. The show “Sidha Kura Janata Sanga” is one of the most popular shows and has already reached more than a hundred episodes. Lamichhane is considered as a hero who uncovers the bitter truth and gives justice to the people. His show “Ma Rastrako Sewak” that airs on the internet is a highly rated show.

Besides his show, he wrote the lyrics for Nabin K Bhattarai’s song “Timilai Man Paraunchhu” and the song “Timro Aagamanle feri” sung by Ram Krishna Dhakal.

Social Work

Nikita and Rabi Lamichhane working to build the Smart hospital in the Remote Karnali region. This is a social work under the newly formed Rabi Lamichhane foundation. The hospital Raskot Community Hospital was announced in January right after Rabi and Nikita got married.

Personal life

Rabi Lamichhane has been through a number of marriages and divorces. He was previously married to an American Citizen. There are rumors that he bears a daughter with that woman. More recently he divorced his previous wife Isha Lamichhane. Similarly, The divorce with Isha caused a huge place in the social media and to his fan following. He married Nikita Poudel, the chief of the Film Development Board in Nepal.

He was taken into custody for the case in connection with ‘journalist’s suicide’. Lamichhane was arrested after a video allegedly recorded by Saligram Pudasaini himself before committing suicide emerged. Pudasaini, who was most recently working with Mountain Television until his death at a Chitwan-based hotel this week. He was found hanging from the ceiling of a Chitwan-based hotel, according to police.

This incident caused huge outrage among his supporters who claim that he has been framed and is innocent.
